why not use the Create Buffers wizard (Theme > Create Buffers) to create
buffers 50m inside each polygon and then output the buffers as a new
shapefile?

Hi!
I would like to move polygon boundaries inwards by lets say 50m. If it would
be a circle the radius would decrease by this 50m then. However, I do not
now how to proceed on irregularly shaped features.
